Oh nothing, nothing at all. It’s just that there seems to be a disturbing trend among software developers in thinking that knowledge of good software design has anything at all to do with knowledge of interface design. It’s more than disturbing really, it’s downright infuriating and demoralizing. I think this little cartoon says it all:
This hints at the process as being a graphical design only kind of task - but really it is an entire field unto itself.
So please, if you work in a development group with one “black sheep” designer / UI person that looks constantly angry / depressed and is always waving their hands and whining about things like “why don’t we ask the customer?” / “but how is this helping the user?” / “that looks horrible” ….give them a hug or take them out to lunch or something. If they are still around they probably need it.
