ajax experiences

So Howard and I finally did the Tapestry/Dojo talk this morning. Things didn’t feel entirely together on my end, so sorry to anyone in advance if any talking I did was incoherent or otherwise not useful. Howard did a great job most of the time which was a real session saver – so things weren’t all bad.

What a weird experience. The world seems much smaller all of a sudden once you are able to put faces with names (or email addresses in my case, I’m not always as good at remembering names.. ;) ) .

It was great to meet a lot of people from the Dojo team, as well as meeting Howard of course. (something I had never done before)

As far as actual content in the sessions there was a lot of interesting stuff, but the real exciting session that felt most valuable was the one done on humane interface design by Aza Raskin. I knew beforehand that I was more excited about the usability sessions more than anything else but the few that I saw were rather disappointing, besides Aza’s presentation. Very cool stuff. “The death of the desktop” was the heading, and as you can imagine it was tailored towards trying to stop people from re-creating an already ancient mechanism for interacting with programs in web apps and start thinking about new ways to define these interactions with clear and compelling examples. I really hope they put more content like this one in future shows. A lot of people really need to hear some of the things he – and the user interaction community in general have to say about some of these things. (including myself of course)

I hope to do it again sometime.
